Councilor for Tshimoyapula/Majwanaadipitse ward, in the Serowe West constituency has promised not to take coronavirus vaccine until President Mokgweetsi Masisi and his cabinet lead by example.
Botswana is preparing for the roll out of the COVISHIELD vaccine, a donation from Indian government. Councilor Katholo Tapologo said he received a phone call from one of the health officials in his area informing him that the COVISHIELD vaccine will be available at the local clinic on Monday, 22 March 2021.
He said that the information came with an instruction that, him and the village chiefs followed by the elderly people in the village will receive the first dose.
He said residents of Tsimoyapula and Majwanaadipitse have some reservations with the vaccine and demand clarification on why their village was chosen to be amongst the first to receive the vaccine.
According to him, his ward is not the epicentre of COVID-19.
“We have never lost a single elderly person due to this pandemic, and though cases are registered in the area, it is not at an alarming rate like other areas.”
